# Create a program
You can create various programs for affiliates with different commission rules, which helps you categorize and manage affiliates with ease.
## 1. How to create
### **a. Create from scratch**
To create a new program, you can go to **Program** and click the **Create program** button in the top right corner.

There must be at least **ONE** program.

Next, give your program a descriptive title (you can always change this later) and click **Create**.
### b. Duplicate a program
Duplicating a program copies its settings, but affiliates remain with the original program, preserving your existing affiliate relationships and performance metrics.
To duplicate a program, you can go to **Program**, choose the program you want to duplicate and then click the three dots in the upper right hand corner and click the **Duplicate this program** button.

## 2. Set up a Default commission
**Default commission** is the commission given to all affiliates in the program when they successfully bring orders. You can choose between **Percent of sales**, **Fixed amount per order**, or **Fixed amount per item**.
To set up the default commission rate for your program, go to **Program** > **Edit**, there in the **Edit** page, you will find the **Commission rules** section.
* **Percent of sale** is a certain percentage of the order's total sales.
> *For example, if you set the commission rate to 10% of sale, your affiliates will receive 10% of the order's total sales each time they bring back orders.*
* **Fixed amount per order** is a fixed amount for every order.
> *For example, if you set the commission rate to $3 per order, your affiliates will receive $3 each time they bring back orders regardless of the orders' value.*
* **Fixed amount per item** is a fixed amount for every item of the order.
> *For example, if you set the commission rate to $3 per item, your affiliates will receive $6 each time they bring back orders of 2 items.*
* **Tiers** are different commission rates for different affiliates based on their all-time personal sales performance. Tiers can be reset so that all affiliates will start at the same tier after a certain cycle.
## 3. Select products to be applicable for commissions
Product selection allows you to specify which products are included in your program. Only orders containing these products will be eligible for commission.
To set up **Product selection**, you must first go to **Program** > **Edit** > **Product selection**.
* **All products/collections**: All products or collections in your Shopify store are eligible for commission.
* **Specific products/collections**: Only specific products or collections will be eligible for commission. If you want to give commission only on some specific products or collections, please select this and purchases of products not on the list won't be tracked.
> In this example, affiliates in this program can only earn commissions on two products: *Yellow Wool Jumper* and *Floral White Top*.
* **All products/collections except**: All products or collections except those listed here are eligible for commission. If you want to exclude commission only for some specific products or collections, please select this and purchases of products on the list won't be tracked.
> In this example, affiliates in this program can earn commissions on all products except the two listed: *Yellow Wool Jumper* and *Floral White Top*.
In case you select **Specific collections**, please click the **Sync** button to re-sync the collection when new products are added to it on Shopify.

### What commission rate should I offer affiliates?
Affiliate commission rates can vary greatly depending on the niche, the products and services being promoted, or the affiliate program in use. Here are some recommended ranges of commission rates for different niches:
