Programs > Edit > General
After creating a new program, you can have the option to further set up it by clicking on Save and go to setup. Besides, you can access the General tab by visiting Programs tab > Edit > General.
1. General fields
In this section, you will be able to adjust the name, commission type and commission amount if you want. You can also activate or deactivate the program by adjusting the Active button. 
There is one new button which is Private. When you enable this feature, the program's sign up page will be locked and you have to manually invite affiliates.
2. Commission calculation
Include discounts

Commission is calculated after subtracting total discount from the order. This means that when you enable this feature, commission will be lower if your commission type is Percent of sale. For the other two commission types, the commission amount is not affected since the commission calculation is not based on total orders value. 
For example, if a customer makes a purchase of 100$ and total discount is 10$, the commission will be calculated based on 90$ (100$ - 10$). Therefore, if the program commission is 10% of the sale, affiliate commission will be 10% of 90$ which is 9$. 
Exclude shipping
Commission is calculated after subtracting the shipping fee from the order. This means that when you enable this feature, commission will be lower if your commission type is Percent of sale. For the other two commission types, the commission amount is not affected since the commission calculation is not based on total orders value. 
For example, if a customer makes a purchase of 100$ with 5$ shipping fee and program commission is 10%, the commission will be calculated only based on 100$. Thus, affiliate commission is 10% of 100$ which is 10$. If you want to include shipping fee, please do not enable the button, in that case, affiliate commission is 10% of 105$ (100$ + 5$) which is 10.5$.
Exclude taxes
Commission is calculated after subtracting taxes from the order. This means that when you enable this feature, commission will be lower if your commission type is Percent of sale. For the other two commission types, the commission amount is not affected since the commission calculation is not based on total orders value. 
For example, if a customer makes a purchase of 100$ with 10$ of taxes and program commission is 10%, the commission will be calculated only based on 100$. Thus, affiliate commission is 10% of 100$ which is 10$. If you want to include taxes, please do not enable the button, in that case, affiliate commission is 10% of 110$ (100$ + 10$) which is 11$.
3. Further options
Cookie duration 
In this section, you can set up the time that you want your affiliates to keep receiving commissions by tracking the referral orders. Counting will start from the moment a customer clicks the affiliate's referral link. 
During the cookie time you've set, every purchase made by this customer in your shop will automatically lead to commission for the affiliates (The customer does not have to click on the affiliate link, however, that customer must use the same device and browser when they made the first order)
After the cookie duration, if the customer clicks on the affiliate link to purchase, a new cookie cycle begins.
For example, you set the cookie duration to 30 days. Thus, within 30 days, if the customer orders anything from you, your affiliates will receive commission. There will be NO commissions recorded when the customer does not purchase through the affiliate link from day 31 onwards.
Auto-approve order
Normally, when a new referral order is recorded, its status will be marked as pending. After that, you will review the order and decide to approve or reject it. 
Therefore, if you want these orders to be approved automatically, enable Auto-approve order. 
Please do not enable this option if you want to manually approve each payment.
Auto-approve affiliate
Normally, when a new affiliate registers your affiliate program, their status will be pending, waiting for you to review (Approve/Deny). Therefore, if you want these affiliates to be activated automatically, enable Auto-approve affiliate. 
By applying this option, when your affiliates successfully register, they will then immediately be redirected to their affiliate account and can be able to start working.
Customer bonus
If you want coupons to be automatically applied when customers click on affiliate link, you can set up the customer bonus section.
There are two options of coupon for you to choose from:
Affiliate coupon
By selecting this option, when customers click on an affiliate link, coupon of affiliate whose link is used will be automatically applied. (if that affiliate has more than 1 coupon, the coupon that is created first will be applied)
A specified coupon
By selecting this option, when customers click on an affiliate link, a predefined coupon will be automatically applied (no matter which affiliate link is visited). 
To enable this option, you have to create a new coupon on your Shopify admin by going to Shopify admin > Discount section > Create discount. After that, fill in the coupon you have just created to the Enter the specified coupon box.
Note: The specified coupon must NOT be assigned to any affiliates before.
After you have finished all of your general settings, click Save.
